Completely neglected to share this, but I've got another Gobot plush in the works! ^v^

I thought it might be a nice break to make a slightly less complicated guy for once, and then I went ahead and overcomplicated a bunch of details lol (not to mention I'm working on two guys at once currently because I got impatient)

Transformers Superlink needs a complete overhaul

• Optimus Prime dies for 20 years after final battle with Galvatron on Cybertron then gets revived by Misha who has the ability to detect and manipulate Energon when she and Hot Shot found his coffin guard by Omega Supreme and Sentinel Supreme( Omega Sentinel renamed) behind the Great Wall in China.

• Rodimus became the Leader of the Autobots. He leads a group of Autobots, Prowl (2nd in command), Landmine (Brute force), Tow-Line (Tactian and medic) Skyfire, Checkpoint (enforcer), Hot Shot (rookie), Inferno ( 2nd rookie) and Ironhide (3rd rookie) to Earth which is rich with Energon. After Optimus Prime and when Optimus is revived, he became a member of the team.

• Hot Shot is a separate character from Armada/ Micron Legends. He's a rookie and younger brother of Rodimus. When he rescued Misha from the Terrorcons, they form a strong bond.

• Inferno is a second rookie but a great sniper

• Ironhide is a third rookie and he's tough as the G1 counterpart, but has a curious personality.

• Wing Saber is the younger brother of Star Saber who was killed by Deathsaurus

• Galvatron is a separate character from Armada Micron Legends. His body was destroyed when Optimus Prime knock in an engry grid but his spark was put in a machine to keep functioning. His new body was built by Shockblast and Six Shot. His goal is to drain Earth of Energon to rebuild and conquer Cybertron. After receiving the information from Scorponok that Misha was the one who revived Optimus Prime, he sought to capture her and manipulate her to find Energon on every planet in the Solar system.

• Deathsaurus and the Breast Force will be present.

• Snow Cat, Long Haul, Maelstrom (Mirage renamed) and Starscream are separate characters from Armada/Micron Legends

• Slugslinger and Scorponok are the "Starscreams"

• Shockblast is an Energon scientist for the Decepticons and Six Shot is the pilot of Command ship Thruster ( ship from the Gobots series)

• Scorponok is the herald of Unicron and became an ally to the Decepticons.

• Omnicons a Transformers who left Cybertron 4 million years during the war and discovered that mine Energon. Then they migrate to Earth to help the humans find Energon in secret.

• Terrorcons were Omnicons corrupted and transformed by Dark Energon. They are intelligent and can speak.

• Misha is the main human protagonist in the series. She lost her parents, who were archeologists in a car accident. She also lost her grandfather, who the head energy scientist in an explosion on Alcatraz Island by his former partner, Dr Arkiville. which causes her to have the powers to detect Energon.

• Jessica Steel is Misha's Foster sister and bestie and she also has Energon powers by creating weapon constructs. She is partnered with Inferno.

• Connor Zhang is Misha's love interest and also has Energon powers by creating light projections four Chinese animal guardians and has awesome Shaolin kung fu skills. He's partnered with Ironhide.

There will three Quintessons but they were exiled by their own kind from their idealism.

Bucky O'Hare (which I dug a lot at the time) had me thinking of other derivative bits of bandwagon media. Like, I deeply loved Thundarr as a kid and always felt like there is some rich world there for someone to explore somehow. Is there any sort of also rans media clearly inspired by other, more popular media of the time that you think has a lot of untapped potential?

There's one detail about the Gobots that I think everybody forgets, that make them tremendously different in nature from the Transformers: the Gobots aren't robots, but are actually cyborgs, a biological race who converted to robotic bodies. In other words, they're Robocop or the Cybermen. They have enough biological components that they actually need to eat to sustain them. Remember, they have a kitchen and Cafeteria inside their Command Center.

Developing the areas that the Gobots are different from the Transformers - like this - could result in a truly fascinating project. As always, there's a great Doctor Who radio drama, "Spare Parts," that could be the basis for this.

There are even some interesting hints that not all members of this species are Gobots. Gobots are not the name of their species but their robotified warrior class, kind of like the Samurai of Japan, and not all Ancient Japanese were Samurai.

Okay, so, RWBY/Hasbro Universe/RT Universe concepts:

The Transformers are still aliens who instead of finding Earth, find Remnant. Same for Rom and the Micronauts. Remnant itself is much the same, but with a few additions…

Delta Six is an international strike force formed from the Vytal Pact, Cobra is a religious cult turned terrorist organization who view themselves as the successors to Old Mantle and Mistral (The God they were formed in honor of before the latest Commander reforged them; Koh-Buru-Lah, may actually be real. There’s more than JUST the Two Brothers, after all…)

M.A.S.K. is an Atlas project, V.E.N.O.M. are secret Cobra agents who infiltrated it

The Action Hunter is Mistral’s one person answer to Delta Six

Jem and the Holograms (also the Misfits, the Stingers, etc) are a band from Vale

Prysmos was a city time tossed from the First Age (where everyone had magic, remember. The Local King Merklynn doesn’t like this new technological world)

The Inhumanoids were the Gods’s first attempt at collaborating (they can relate to the Grimm’s feelings of abandonment by their creators)

Also: Atlas has a Simulation Trooper program run itself by a secret research project, and rivaled by a corporate/political mix thing as well

An ancient Nomad from well before even Ozma and Salem’s era resurfaces and the dream city of Maktaba somehow becomes reality-in a sense

Summer camps on a chain of islands prove…an interesting experience, & taking the Paladin project even further to just a mind in the machine is being researched, tho the original abusive prick in charge was fired. Sorry, it’s just Season 2 hasn’t come out yet so my Moral OCD needs reassurance

As for more general plot ideas, here’s some I’ve thought up already:

Baron Karza forms an alliance with Atlas/Ironwood

The Dire Wraiths have a sort of alliance with Salem. She also has secret talons in Cobra.

Cybertron & The Pony Dimensions were both created by associates of the Brother Gods. Said Brother Gods are also remnants of the One, tho the god forms of Primus and Unicron also exist here

And because I’m me, GoBots, Robotix, Xevoz, Air Raiders, Rock Lords, Battle Beasts, Sectaurs, Starriors/Commandrons/Converters, all of these kinds of other Hasbro Properties as alien powers and all. Speaking of, other hostile powers include the Intruder Empire, the Sangheili, and so on

(Yeah so this is separate from my strictly RWBY/Transformers thing (the G1/IDW/Aligned one anyhow), where I had it that the Two Brothers were the ones who created Cybertron as well. In this universe I’m thinking they’re sort of like cosmic counterparts to the ones that did, or something)

Transformers...more than meets the eye.

Everyone knows about the toy line that began production in 1984. However, a year earlier, there was another similar toy line...

Produced by Tonka, a company known for making larger toy cars for smaller kids, (so they couldn’t as easily put them in their mouth) GoBots weren’t as popular as Transformers primarily due to Hasbro’s advertising campaign dwarfing Tonka’s by a landslide. In addition, the amount of different GoBots was significantly less than Transformers even in the beginning.

It also didn’t help that the animated show (this being the 80s, any toy line that hoped to sell to kids needed a cartoon attached to it) looked very cheaply-made by comparison, but we’ll get to that in a moment.

Let’s start with the late-comer that eventually won. While I won’t get in-depth on Transformers (that will come in a future review) I will say my first viewing of the series soured me on it rather unfairly, as when I finally sat down to watch it a few years later I wondered why I hated the show so much.

Incidentally, said first viewing was in the episode Fire in the Sky. I came into the middle of the episode in which Skyfire saw Autobots for the first time and announced he must destroy them. I shut the show off after that bit.

In actuality, this was a tragic episode about a Decepticon who was lost for millions of years, who discovered the faction he was a part of had changed to the point that didn’t even recognize his own friend anymore

Now, on to the subject of this review...

First off, the artwork was very primitive compared to Transformers. This could be forgiven if they had a compelling story arc and/or a deep cast of characters. Neither was the case. The plots were a bit dumbed down compared to Transformers and there was very little grey area between the two (and yes, Autobots and Decepticons were pretty much the same way, but you did occasionally see members of both sides questioning if they were on the “right” side (the aforementioned Skyfire as well as the Arielbots, who saw the Decepticon planes as kindred spirits...and then there are the Dinobots, who occasionally butt heads with Optimus Prime as far as who should be in charge)

And as far as a deep roster...yeeeeeaaaaaah...

While even the first season of Transformers had a rotating cast of about a dozen on either side (plus Spike and Sparkplug, the Autobots’ human friends), Gobots had 3 regular cast members on either side, plus the occasional “guest star”...

First, we have the Guardians. We have the commander (whether of this group or the entirety of the Guardians isn’t clear) Leader-1, his lieutenant Turbo, and their mascot Scooter (a quick note, despite what the opening credits show, Scooter is the only GoBot who doesn’t have hand blasters; instead, he has the ability to project holograms. In one episode, he gets the opportunity to arm himself and gets cocky, endangering the rest of the team)

Next we have the Renegades. In the center, we have their leader (in this case, he is the commander of the Renegades) Cy-Kill and his goons (like he’d trust any of them with any authority) Crasher and Cop-Tur.

You will note that neither side had any underlying “theme” like the Autobots (who were primarily cars) or any insignia. The only real difference is the Renegades “looked” evil in comparison to the Guardians

The two factions fight for control of their planet GoBotron (gee...I wonder where they got the idea for that name?) until their fight came to Earth.

On Earth, the Guardians are assisted by three humans named Nick, A.J., and Matt.

Compared to Transformers, as well as most of the “daily cartoon” fare (most of which you could find on toy shelves in the 80s, such as He-Man), Challenge did not fare well. The plots tended to be as simplistic as its animation style, and rarely does the viewer feel any sense of suspense (even less so than typical animated series at the time; in fact, the only animated series of the era I could find that regularly showed anything resembling peril for the heroes came from Japan, but I’ll get to that in a later review)

#AGundamForUs: Resurrecting the Mecha Genre

I fell in love with mecha back in the 80s: Transformers, Mighty Orbots, Challenge of the GoBots, Robotech, Voltron, BattleTech... I watched/read/played everything I could, and I haven’t stopped loving mecha since. However, genres come and go, and mecha was one of those that just kind of faded into the background. As part of the science fiction genre, it never truly went away (the Gundam and Macross franchises have been going for 30 years now), and thus, every now and again, a new anime (Voltron: Legendary Defender, Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse), novel (Peter Tieryas’ United States of Japan novels), movie (Pacific Rim films) or game (BattleTech revival) brings a little light into the world. So when I heard of #AGundamForUs, I was ecstatic. Originally posted on Twitter, it has become a hashtag rally to mecha lovers everywhere. Though, not a member of this group of authors (helmed by Brian Niemeier, Bradford Walker, and Rawle Nyanzi -- links directly to related articles/blogs), it gives me nothing but pleasure to help them raise the flag. Over the years, I have been working on my own mecha project, “Screaming Metal” which has been in development for 3 years now -- woefully too long -- and #AGundamForUs has been a nice kick in the behind. Part one focuses on how to make HTTP requests. I couldn’t do it easily on my previous iPhone which I was peer-pressured into getting a few years ago and upgrading to the latest model, but finally I escaped into the unlocked freedom of the Android ecosystem where it is easy to transfer files to the phone and have the joy of seeing your own App work on it without much friction. This is just a sample of what she’s worked on. Andrea is the woman who directs and helps with the casting of the characters. This means that she would be the one that knows who voiced who on the show. 

Most of the time the EPs, or Executive Producers are in contact with the writers, the ADR and the Voice Director, and Casting Director, and the Animation lead team (Story board head, animation lead, background lead, CGI lead, etc) and the other heads of the departments. They mostly work with the Main cast, or long running/ major reoccuring characters VAs. This means that they likely will not have a lot of interaction with a smaller character’s VA. This doesn’t mean that they don’t care about the VA but it does mean that they are more focused on making sure that the Main cast and characters like say Matt, will understand their roles and the like at times. 

The Voice Director’s job is to take that script that came out, and have the Actors play the parts and present them to the best of their ablities and pull the dramatic tension out of it. 

That scene with Shiro and Keith in Last season, that was Andrea pushing Steve and Josh to their limits to get that scene right. She’s also got others working with her as assistants and co directors at points, but this is mostly her doing this work and getting the actors to play their parts. 

People are getting upset over the forgetting of one actor, but it’s pretty likely that neither of the EPs directly interacted with that VA for a long enough time. IE they met him probably, said Hi, and depending on how long and how many sessions he was in for, which if Adam is not a hugely important character in the over all story (IE, like Colleen in that he is important to a character but not directly affecting the plot itself), then that is really really limited seeing as they have other departments that will take up their time.  Now this is not to say that they don’t respect the actor, it just means, as far as the people concerned directly with him and who would be working the most with him thus probably the person to ask more about this would be, Josh, since he plays Shiro, and Andrea, since she is directing it and probably any of these three as they are the casting directors:

As such they would be the people to ask about the voice of Adam. It’s their job to find the actors and cast them. Andrea directs them, and the EPs basically are there to manage and make sure everything runs smooth with the story developments and over all direction of the show... So please...please guys, stop harping on them over not remembering who did Adam. Yes he’s important to Shiro, but not to the over all story, which...If I might remind people, is actually focused on Keith and his growth...or it’s supposed to be and that was shoved aside for Shiro...thanks Suits...thanks. So yes, Adam is important, but not to Keith, or Lance or Allura (who are most of the POVs in this series thus far) and because of that, he probably doesn’t have a ton of screen time, and thus Lauren and JDS probably didn’t get to meet or talk with the VA of him a lot, so, yeah, it’s more than likely that his name slipped their mind.
